It’s been awhile since I posted something in this page. Well
actually there were a lot of things that I can write however, I can't find time
to write about it.
Anyway, I recently went on a vacation in an island somewhere
in Palompon, Leyte. I was bored reading our training material on work one night of January this year so I
decided to check on Cebu Pacific’s website. I found a cheap ticket going to
Tacloban. Initially, I wanted to go to my father's town and spend a short
vacation there but I just remember Kalanggaman Island was featured in Kapuso Mo
Jessica Sojo. I immediately browsed the net (event if I’m not allowed to… evil
me lol) and checked thing and stuffed about the Island. I find it very
interesting so I booked the flight and planned the trip.
Most of the blog that I read mentioned that you can go to
the island as early as 6am however, according to the staff of tourism office
this trip is only for day tour. For overnight tour the start of the trip is at
11 am. However, you need to go to the tourism office as early as 9am to
register because the boat will be first come first serve basis. Every boat carries
fresh water from Palompon, you can ask for a container of fresh water from the
boat staff when you arrived in the island (there are no fresh water in the
island. They use salt water to flush the toilet).
We arrived in Kalanggaman at around 2pm. We immediately
pitch a place to set up our tent. It’s so hot when we went to the island. No
sea breezes that can help lessen heat. We literally are sweating a lot. We just
sat outside the tent and observe the people around us. The island is so crowded
maybe because its summer and its vacation season.
We decided to walk on the sandbar at 4pm. It’s 4pm but it’s
damn hot. Good thing we brought an umbrella so we still manage to reach the farthest side of the sandbar. It’s time for us to take a photo and selfies of us without
a photo bummer since we are the only one walking on the sandbar.
There is a store in island but the price is doubled as the
regular price. They sell Popsicle sticks, soda, soy sauce (if you plan to
grill). There is a stall that sells halo halo (100 pesos plastic cup) and
grilled chicken, hotdogs and barbeque.
We took a lot of picture and videos while
swimming. You can immediate post it in whatever social media you have because
surprisingly there is a network signal in the island. Globe network is stronger
than smart (so my unlinet is useless lol).
If you don’t want to sleep in a tent, there is a resort at
the back of the island where you can rent a wooden tent that has comfortable
foam to sleep on or a room with an A/C. When night kicks in, aside from listening to the crowd’s
music, you can just lie down on your tent and watch the stars in the sky.
It’s good that I was able to visit the place while it’s
still semi-develop. Why semi-develop? Well they are now constructing something
in the middle of the island. It looks like a bar or a pavilion. Well, I believe
the “be-one-with-the-nature” expectation will soon be gone. So if you are
planning to go to Kalanggaman, book a flight now while it’s still semi-raw.
